I first met Hollie Hughes many years ago in Moree when Hollie and her husband Stewart were running their contract farming business and Hollie was active in Liberal politics. Two years ago, while working for executive search firm Salt & Schein as Head of Government, it appeared Hollie’s moment had arrived. After being placed in an unwinnable position on the Senate ticket in the previous year’s election, she was appointed to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. However, at the same time, Fiona Nash was disqualified from the Senate due to dual citizenship at the time of the election. Hollie immediately resigned from the tribunal only to be found ineligible for the Senate by the High Court because she held a paid government position at the time of the Senate recount.
And so Ms Hughes went back to work at Salt & Schein. Then just over a year ago, Hollie moved her family to Sydney due to family circumstances.
On Saturday the 18th of May men may have given speeches, claimed victories or wandered off soul searching but Hollie’s day had finally arrived. After years of hard work, Ms Hughes was elected to the Australian Senate.
Hollie is pictured above wearing a pair of our very own 18ct white gold South Sea Pearl Shepherd Hook Earrings. All bought and paid for by the resilient Hollie Hughes.
